Mango growers across Chittoor district are facing a major crisis as the price of Totapuri mangoes has plunged to just ₹5 to ₹6 per kilogram in major markets. The sharp decline has left thousands of farmers struggling to recover cultivation, harvesting, and transportation costs. According to farmers and industry sources, the price crash has been triggered by a combination of surplus mango pulp stocks from the previous season and disruptions in export markets. With processing units and pulp factories slowing procurement due to unsold inventory, large quantities of Totapuri mangoes are arriving at markets without adequate buyers. Chittoor, one of Andhra Pradesh’s largest mango-producing regions, depends heavily on the Totapuri variety, which is widely used in the pulp-processing industry. However, the current market situation has left farmers worried about mounting losses, as the prevailing prices are far below production costs. Many farmers have urged the government to intervene by ensuring fair procurement prices and extending financial support. Growers say that unless immediate measures are taken, the livelihood of thousands of mango-farming families in the district could be severely affected. Agricultural leaders and farmer associations have also called for steps to improve exports, clear existing pulp stocks, and stabilize market prices to prevent further distress in the mango sector. The situation continues to be closely monitored as farmers await relief measures from the state government.

Dedication Commission Chairman Ranjan Mishra said that the Supreme Court guidelines are the standard for reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local bodies. He held a study on reservations and received requests from leaders of BC associations at the PGRS hall in the Collectorate on Saturday. He said that the opinions, suggestions and suggestions of BCs across the state will be received as per the Supreme Court guidelines, a comprehensive study will be conducted and a report will be prepared. Earlier, the commission reviewed the procedures with the BC Welfare Department officials. He said that the commission will collect comprehensive information on the population of BCs in local body elections, their social and economic conditions, and the political representation they are getting in local bodies. He said that the commission will travel to receive information that reflects the current situation.
